Joining Forces to Save Lives at Sea

Coastguard New Zealand and Fishing and Adventure are joining forces to make a difference and help boaties stay safe on the water this summer.

The partnership will see Scott and Mig from Fishing and Adventure sharing knowledge and tips throughout their top rating show and social media channels that will help all boaties enjoy their time out on the water and get home safely.

“With more Kiwis expected on the water than ever over the coming months, we are thrilled to be partnering with Fishing and Adventure,” says Georgie Smith, Head of Marketing and Communications, Coastguard New Zealand.

“Scott and Mig are genuine in their desire to help boaties do the right thing on and off the water whilst having fun and catching the big one. They love the water as much as we do and we're really excited about working together to reach more boaties than we have before.”

For Scott and Mig, the partnership provides an opportunity to build awareness around their core values of enjoying Aotearoa’s seas and coastlines safely and sustainably.

“Being out on the water is our absolute passion and part of our DNA,” says Scott Parry, Company Director and Presenter of Fishing and Adventure. “And while we’re all about having a good time out there, we’re serious about using the Fishing and Adventure platform to show all Kiwi’s how to do so safely.”

“No matter the conditions we will always wear our lifejackets and logging trip and bar crossing reports with Coastguard are part of our everyday routine,” says presenter Mig Rumney. “By capturing these actions as part of the show, we hope to show other boaties these steps are just as important to a successful trip as having the right bait and rod on board.

“We want to encourage all boaties to make good decisions so that they can fish another day,” adds Mig.

Coastguard believes the partnership has the potential to have a real impact on the “she’ll be right attitude” that contributes to New Zealand’s high number of recreational boating deaths.

“What makes Scott and Mig exceptional ambassador’s for Coastguard is their instinctive and consistent safety conscious ethos and actions on board their boat Holy Ship,” says Georgie. “They’re a couple of good characters that will help us save more lives at sea.”

“A lot of people don’t realise that Coastguard is a charity and aren’t aware of the huge amount of time Coastguard’s volunteers dedicate to helping Kiwis out on the water,” says Scott. “We feel privileged to be working alongside these legends to help increase awareness about being safe on the water.”
