In 2026, Coastguard marked a significant milestone, celebrating 50 years as a national maritime search and rescue organisation while continuing a legacy of volunteer service that spans more than a century. From responding to 2,800 incidents and assisting 6,698 people, to expanding rescue capability, advancing boating education and investing in the volunteers at the heart of the mission, the report demonstrates how Coastguard continues to evolve to meet the changing needs of New Zealand's boating community.
