Coastguard Raglan rescue three from water following harbour capsize

Raglan, 26 March 2024 – Coastguard Raglan volunteers rescued three people from Raglan Harbour following a vessel capsize yesterday afternoon.

Coastguard were alerted by a member of the public to the situation near the entrance to the harbour around 2.15pm. Volunteers on the Unit's two jet skis, Rylock Waikato Rescue I and Rylock Waikato Rescue 2, arrived on the scene in 15 minutes, retrieving the people from the water and later recovering the vessel. Fortunately, they were wearing correctly fitted lifejackets. All three individuals were transferred to shore safe and well.

Coastguard Raglan noted that the trio were very lucky. In the strong currents and choppy sea conditions, they had drifted around 200m from the initial capsize. Volunteers also credited the land informant who provided quick information to ensure they could help as swiftly as possible.

Well done to Coastguard Raglan, as well as the Coastguard Operations Centre, for this fantastic outcome, particularly our highly skilled and trained jet ski operators.
