This boat has been at Queenstown from early 2008 and was previously at Cape Egmont Coastguard from 2003.

Howick Rescue 1 (HR1) was launched in 1995 and is a NAIAD 8.5m Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat.

Length: 8.5 metres/6.7 at W/L, Beam: 2.9 metres / 2.2 at W/L

Draft at rest : 450 mm, Deadrise : 23 degrees

Construction : 6 mm alloy, Weight : 3040 kg

Engine: Yanmar Diesel 6LMY.: 350 hp @ 3300 rpm

Jet Unit: Hamilton 273 Jet Unit, centreflex coupling

Speed: Max: 34 kts., Cruise: 27 kts.

This is an ideal setup for being able to be launched and retrieved bow first in all weathers, and for close to shore searching. The boat is crewed by between 3 and 5 people.
