No, unfortunately you can’t buy a discounted Hutchwilco lifejackets online, as you need to trade in your old or unsafe lifejacket in store to take advantage of this offer.
The aim of this campaign is to remove unsafe lifejackets from Kiwi boats, garages and homes across Aotearoa, and to do that we need you to bring in your old lifejackets so that we can destroy or recycle elements of the lifejackets.
There’s no limit to the number of lifejackets you can upgrade. Simply trade-in one old or unsafe lifejacket and you’ll receive the discounted price when you purchase a new Hutchwilco lifejacket.

Wearing a lifejacket you’ve had for 20 years can be risky for several reasons.
Over time, materials like foam, fabric, webbing, and straps can degrade, especially with exposure to sunlight, saltwater, and humidity. Even if it looks okay on the outside, its buoyancy and strength might be compromised.
Additionally, lifejacket standards have changed over the years. Newer models are designed with improved flotation, comfort, and safety features. A 20-year-old lifejacket might not meet these updated standards, which could make it less effective in an emergency. For you and your whānau’s safety, it pays to replace it with a newer, more reliable model.
Yes, you can purchase any of the Hutchwilco lifejackets from Hunting & Fishing.
If you don’t have an old lifejacket to trade in, but want to get set for summer with a new one, all lifejackets will be available at the normal retail price listed within the store.
If you do end up in the water, the buoyancy of a lifejacket can be quite strong. Any movement inside the lifejacket can mean it ‘rides up’ – in extreme cases the lifejacket can slip right over your head. A thigh strap attaches to the front and back of your lifejacket with a strap around your thigh to prevent the lifejacket from going anywhere. An ergonomic thigh strap is built into the Mariner Classic and the 170N Inflatable models.
When lifejackets are traded in through Old4New, they’re carefully checked over. Most are no longer safe, so we remove belts and whistles, then destroy and dispose of the old lifejackets responsibly. The belts and whistles go to groups like Scouts for educational purposes.
