Tower are a new major supporter of Coastguard, and as part of our partnership, staff and volunteers get discounts on Tower insurance policies. Discounts off outdoor and boating equipment from Marine Deals

Marine Deals is New Zealand’s largest online marine retailer, and as boaties themselves, they really value the work Coastguard does, so our people get access to the Marine Deals Discount programme, with loads of discounts of a huge range of their products. If you want in, simply send your name to [email protected]. We'll then send your name and email address on to the team at Marine Deals and you’ll receive an email from them in the next few days letting you know how to sign up. Then, once you’re logged in to the Marine Deals site you’ll see your discounted prices when you click on a product– easy!  

Please note, you can only use one discount at a time - your Coastguard Marine Deals account gives you discounts on most products all the time. To buy a product on special as advertised by Marine Deals, you'll need to log out of your Coastguard account and checkout as a guest instead.

Discounts off retail, hospitality and much more

Coastguard’s membership with Boost allows volunteers and staff to receive discounts for personal purchases. From electricity to DIY, travel to tyres – we can all benefit from better prices. Boost is a benefits programme that lets employers reward their people with discounts and special offers at New Zealand retailers and service providers.

Boost is easy to use. Coastguard employees and volunteers are automatically registered to these amazing discounts by registering their name and email address. You will receive an email from Boost where you can simply register your card details at www.myboost.co.nz and your good to go! You will receive email updates on the latest limited time offers as well as access to everyday deals.

If you do not wish to be enrolled to these great discounts, email [email protected] and they'll register you for the scheme.

Discounted Medical Cover with Southern Cross Health Insurance

Coastguard have put in place a Southern Cross Health Insurance Voluntary Scheme for us. This includes:

• Healthy lifestyle reward – 10% off the first two years’ premiums for members who qualify for the health lifestyle reward
• Discounted premiums for you and your immediate family* of 8% off retail rates
• Low claims discount – 5% or 10% off premiums for up to 12 months based on member’s claims over a two year period

* Immediate family = spouse or partner and dependent children under the age of 21.

For new Southern Cross Members, simply register using the Southern Cross Portal and your Coastguard ID. This can be found on your training records on LMS or you can contact [email protected].

Personal Accident Insurance 

As a valued Coastguard team member we now have in place a Personal Accident policy offering cover for Volunteers and Staff whilst travelling to or from Coastguard duty or during volunteering time. There are conditions and specific terms on this policy, in the first instance please reach out to [email protected] to discuss. Types of covers include ‘Accidental Death & Disablement’ insurance and a potential ACC top up to a maximum of $500 per week if injured whilst volunteering for Coastguard.   

Volunteer counselling and support services - Vitae

Vitae provides a confidential service available to all volunteers, staff and their immediate families. You can access the scheme without any approval from Coastguard.

Vitae have a complex network of counsellors all over the country so there will always be someone in your area to help. A Vitae counsellor is selected to suit your particular need in an area local to you.

Units should access Vitae’s services after a particularly traumatic incident or following a bereavement within the crew. Their website has useful information on managing stress, grief, trauma, family issues, financial worries, relationship counselling and mediation. There is also a wellbeing section to assist with mental and physical stresses.

Your immediate family can also access three sessions. To use this, contact the [email protected] for a confidential chat so they can alert Vitae.​

Free Coastguard Membership 

Volunteers and staff get access to all the same benefits and discounts as paying members: for as long as you’re an active volunteer or staff member, you get free assistance for you, your spouse and any kids under 18, on any vessel, anywhere there’s a Coastguard unit. If you ever need to call for assistance, just tell the team you’re a volunteer and you’ll be sorted.
