Coastguard Dunedin was started in November 2005 by a group of local boating enthusiasts under the name Harbour Rescue Inc.
In 2012 we purchased an i.5m Protector vessel from Coastguard Waihi Beach which was renames Dunedin Rescue. In 2022 we received an Americas Cup vessel, a 12m Protector ‘Moana Rescue’ which provides a much larger more effective platform for our crew to operate from.
In 2020 we moved from operating from Portobello to Dunedin city. This was to ensure we were able to recruit and retain enough volunteers to meet our operating needs. This has been successful with many new volunteers joining us. In 2022 we moved into our Operations Base in Kitchener Street and volunteers worked hard to make it habitable and comfortable for us to train and operate from.
Our current major project is to work with our local boating club on a joint building project as we currently operate from the workshop of one of our volunteers and the Portobello fire station hall.
