The Coastguard Maketū response area covers from Papamoa Beach out and around Motti Island, east to Plate Island and back into Otamarakau Beach. A very large and popular fishing and recreation area with a mixture of commercial and recreational craft.
Since joining Coastguard in 2009 Maketū now have 24 members and a much larger and safer rescue boat to help them save lives at sea; a 11.7metre twin jet.
