Coastguard volunteers receive Queen's Birthday Honours
Coastguard New Zealand is extremely proud of the three volunteers who have recently received their Queen's Birthday Honours. Pete Woodward (Kapiti Coast), Ian Coard (Riverton) and Pat Roser (Tauranga) received their awards from Dame Patsy Reddy, due to their tremendous service to Coastguard.
Pete Woodward, Coastguard Kapiti Coast
Pete received his QSM for service to Coastguard. Pete is a Senior Crew Member, the Communications Officer and the Fundraising Officer at Kapiti Coast. As Fundraising Officer, Pete has overseen the raising of over $300,000 for the unit. Pete was also a main instigator in raising $200,000 for Kapiti Coast's new rescue vessel, a project that took four years of hard work and campaigning. Congratulations Pete!
Ian Coard, Coastguard Riverton
Ian was recently made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM) for his service to Coastguard. Ian has been a volunteer for 31 years and has held many positions within the Riverton unit including Safety Officer, Coxswain, Search and Rescue Coordinator and President. Ian is a Coastguard Boating Education tutor, was a Board Member for Coastguard New Zealand and Coastguard Southern Region and served three years as CNZ President. Ian is also the Independent Member representing the Search and Rescue Volunteer Sector on the New Zealand Search and Rescue Council. Congratulations Ian!
Pat Roser, Coastguard Tauranga
Pat received her QSM for service to both Coastguard and Make A Wish Foundation earlier this year. Pat has been a Radio Operator as well as a volunteer at Coastguard Tauranga for 21 years. Over her many years with Coastguard, Pat has had a tremendous influence on Coastguard's ability to save lives at sea. Congratulations Pat!
