Coastguard North Canterbury was started in 1978.

In 2010 we suffered a major setback with our building being badly damaged by the Canterbury earthquake.  With the support of the Lion Foundation, Christchurch Earthquake Appeal Trust and Coastguard units from across the country we have been able to rebuild our base on the Kaiapoi River – ‘Lion Foundation Maritime Rescue Centre’ which will be a community facility.

Our 22 volunteer crew members are well trained in search and rescue operations.

Visit our About Us section for more information on our unit's VesselSponsors and how you can Contact Us.
