Coastguard Clyde was started in 2004 by a group of boating enthusiasts and volunteer members.  They shared a common love of the water and a firm belief that everyone should be able to enjoy sailing or boating with the knowledge that should anything go wrong, there would be emergency help available to them.

After two years of hard work they obtained a Coastguard Rescue Vessel and have since then put their energy into achieving Coastguard training qualifications and providing search and  rescue, and on water safety services for local groups and on local waterways.

They also fundraised to establish a permanent operational building on the grounds of the Department of Conservation Rural Fire Depot adjacent to Trail Journeys at Clyde.  This was officially opened in October 2010.
