The North Kaipara Unit was formed in 1993 after the Northland Police Commander suggested Otamatea Aero Club start an Air Patrol.

This unit covers the northern half of Kaipara Harbour, involving five boating clubs, an aero club, the fire brigade and radio operators, coordinated in emergency from Ruawai airfield.

Training - held at Ruawai Airfield on the first Wednesday of the month, 1930 hrs. The unit is currently training crew in preparation for acquiring a rescue vessel for Tinopai.
