National Volunteer Week - thanks for making the time
Sunday 19 June marks the start of National Volunteer Week where we celebrate the time made by volunteers and the invaluable contribution they make to our communities.
Coastguard volunteers do it because it's the right thing to do. But they do not count themselves as heroes. It's our duty to keep reminding them that they really are.
Patrick Holmes, CEO of Coastguard New Zealand says that "we are extremely proud of volunteers who dedicate so many hours to keeping their communities safe."
Good people have been volunteering their time to save lives at sea since the 1860s. Nationally, Coastguard volunteers respond to calls for help from seven vessels in distress each and every day.
